Gingerbread dream home

I wanted to do something challenging this holiday season, and boy did I find the project! I was inspired to create my own gingerbread dream home.  I am a huge fan of everything Mid-Century Modern; architecture, design, furniture, decor everything.  I guess growing up when I did had something to do with that.
So here is my creation, a MCM gingerbread house. And best of all...it's 100% edible!
I found a really great recipe for gingerbread on Pinterest here.  I started with a sketch and then made templates in case I wanted to make this again.  I got most of my candies at Bulk Barn which had a ridiculously awesome selection.  After baking and assembling the main pieces (without breaking!) I set out to fill in the details.
The chimney was really the main focus for me and I used chocolate pebbles for that.

The door was a little more difficult.  I had to gently cut out the windows. Then, after baking, filled those holes with broken mint candy to create the "glass".  I used royal icing to create the "moss" in between the stepping stone walkway and the boxwood hedge.
Satin candies were used for all of the windows and I gave the whole thing a dusting of large white sugar to create an "icy" feel.
I had such fun creating this...it looks like I'll have a new holiday tradition.  Enjoy! cheers! diane

Website is updated

I've been working feverishly the past few weeks to get the new website up and running.  Hopefully it's easy to use and showcases Tasty Jewelry to it's fullest.

Check it out here: tastyjewelry.com

In case you aren't familiar with my jewelry I keep the designs minimal and delicate.  These are pieces you can wear every day either layered or alone.  So go check out the site and let me know what you think!

New life, new blog....

Looks like Blogger and Google have decided to lock me out of my old blog (tastyjewelry.blogspot.com) so I can't just pick up where I left off 3 years ago. Maybe that's a good thing so I don't have a chance to look back, but forward to a new life here in Canada and a rebirth of my business and blog.

It's been a crazy few years...all great things of course which makes me feel very lucky.  I recently got married and moved to Toronto with my super awesome rock star husband.  (Yes, technically he is a rock star.)

This is my first post so I can sort of get the "lay of the land" and shake out the cob webs from blogging.  Please bear with me as I hope to be a lot more (inter)active with this blog.  In the meantime, here is a little taste of what I have been working on...enjoy!

cheers!
